Lauren wasn't sure if she'd ever recover from Simon and Josh's party. She really hadn't even planned on going, but as soon as Laleh heard there was a party...she coaxed her right in to going.
"Just sing and have a good time," Laleh had told her, and Ian was rather mute on the subject, but he went with her, anyhow. She still wasn't sure if he had a good time or not, but he was OK with all the songs. Their old songs came back to her after awhile. He'd start them. She'd finish them. It helped that he could lay the track down on his keyboard that Cecil let him borrow. It felt almost like a real band. But then they were performing to drunks so it might have been bad for all she knew.
Thankfully, they got out of there before it got too rowdy. Instead, they took the scenic route to the park and watched random fireworks. She hadn't had this much time with Laleh in a long time. They had fun celebrating with everyone else. She hated to leave Ian with all the equipment, but he didn't seem to mind.
"Didn't you see how he looked," she'd asked Laleh in the park. "Something is bringing him down, and I don't know what?"
Naturally, Laleh hugged her more. "Don't worry about it. He's a big boy." They'd kiss then under the blazing sky of firework.
"I think its Kelsy," Ian was still on her mind the next morning when Laleh brought her cereal in bed. "Did you see how she took over when she got the party?"
"No," Laleh shook her head. "I don't recall."
"And you say you weren't drunk?" Lauren took a bite of cereal.
"I was watching you," Laleh told her. "I didn't want to watch that disgusting cow."
"She probably abuses him," Lauren had decided.
"I'm sure he wouldn't have looked such a sad sod if she had." Laleh laughed pushing a plush strawberry in Lauren's mouth.
"I don't know why I didn't ask." Lauren shrugged.
"Well, he wouldn't have told you," Laleh said. "Its none of your business." Laleh looked at her seriously then. "Its not your business anymore. Leave it."
But Lauren wasn't listening. Maybe he really did need her to talk too. Lauren ate her cereal then wondering where he was, hoping he still wasn't at Simon and Josh's.
